Women’s Health and Safety

Here Adventure Travel Himalayas has listed a few travel pointers written especially for women’s safety travel. If you’re a woman or traveling with a woman, read up! It’s important to know!

Women’s Travel Safety

This special section is meant to help prepare women travelers for their journeys. Whether traveling alone or in a group, women travelers face a great deal many more dangers than men.

For your knowledge and safety travel, we will avoid sugarcoating things. Many people take Tibet’s association with Buddhism to be emblematic of the culture and all of its members. While Buddhism has certainly given Himalayan culture many things, there are universal commonalities that one will encounter everywhere. Remember that people are people and the same problems that plague the rest of the world exist here as well. We do not intend to add a negative shade to your experience. Rather, we intend to be realistic and provide you with useful information, so ladies (and men) be aware!

Women’s Safety Travel

Sexual harassment is an issue here as it is everywhere. Be just as doubtful as you would in your home country of men who seem to be making advances or ask you to go places with them alone. Do not think that because the people you will meet are members of a Buddhist cultural or other religious sphere that they are not capable of harming others. This warning extends to monks as well. Not all monks are fully ordained and not all fully ordained monks are from sects requiring vows of chastity. Read our Tibet travel tips to reduce the chances of untoward experiences occurring during your trip.

Serious cultural differences may arise that can lead one into unexpected and even dangerous situations. If you have an uncomfortable experience, especially with someone you meet through us, please let your travel guides know! We fully reject sexual harassment and violence against women in any form. Our main goal is to put your safety and comfort first. Read our complete Tibet travel guide to best improve your travel plan.

Feminine Care Products

Pads are widely available in China and can be found at small stores in rural Tibetan areas though international brands are uncommon. Tampons are usually not available beyond major cities and even in cities selections are limited. Bringing your own feminine hygiene products is highly recommended! When in rural areas or on the road, feminine hygiene products can be disposed of as one would when camping.

Running Water

Be aware that when traveling into villages or to tour Everest Base Camp you may find yourself in situations without running water (whether that be a sink or a flush toilet). Pack up on care products and other hygiene products that you usually use because they are not likely available here! We would much appreciate to involve in forum to discuss and share your recent Tibet experience.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
