Druk Path Trek is one of the most popular trekking trails. Shorter than many other routes, this six-day trek provides everything you aspire for. This trail passes through blue pine forests, several lakes, mountain passes, ancient temples, fortresses, and villages. It also offers a spectacular view of Mt. Gangkar Punsum, the highest unclimbed mountain in the world.

Because of its proximity to the airport, easier elevation, and shorter duration, the Druk Path Trek is one of the most popular trekking trails in Bhutan. Shorter than many other routes, this six-day trek provides everything you could hope for. This trail passes through blue pine forests, several lakes, mountain passes, ancient temples, fortresses, and villages.

Altitude along this trail ranges from 2,400 to 4,200 metres. This trek also offers a spectacular view of Mt. Gangkar Punsum, the highest unclimbed mountain in the world. The best time for the Druk Path Trek is between March and June or September and November.

Itinerary – Druk Path Trek

Travelling Bhutan

First Day: Arrive Paro in Bhutan

Our company guide will receive you at the Paro International Airport and transfer you to your hotel. If you arrive early, you will be taken on a local sightseeing tour. We will visit the National Museum – locally known as Taa Dzong or the Watch Tower – Rinpung Dzong and other places of historical importance. Towards the late afternoon, you may like to walk along Paro town, which has a number of handicraft items for sale. Overnight in Paro in 3 star hotel/resort.


Second Day: Paro to Jili Dzong

  • Time: 4-5 hrs
  • Distance: 7km
  • Trial: 1,090 m ascent

Campsite altitude: 3,480 m. We start from the National Museum of Bhutan in Paro. Today, we will cover just seven km because the trail is strenuous and we will need to climb more than 1,000 metres.


Third Day: Jili Dzong to Jangchulakha

  • Time: 4-5hrs.
  • Distance: 10km
  • Trail: 310m ascent, 50m descent
  • Campsite altitude: 3,770m

Today we will trek more than the first day. After 90 minutes of sharp ascent, we will come across a gentle trail.


Fourth Day: Jangchulakha to Jimgelang Lake

  • Time: 4hrs.
  • Distance: 11 km
  • Trail: 230m descent, 330m ascent

Campsite altitude: 3,870 m. Today we will walk across a ridge. When the sky is clear, the view of valleys below is mesmerising. We will camp at Jimgelang Lake, which is known for its gigantic trout.


Fifth Day: Jimgelang Tsho to Simkotra Lake

  • Time: 4hrs.
  • Distance: 11 km
  • Trail: 820m ascent, 400m descent

Campsite altitude: 4,110 m. Today, we pass through dwarf rhododendrons and Janetsho Lake. We may also pass through yak herders’ camps.


Sixth Day: Simkotra Lake to Phajoding

  • Time: 3-4hrs.
  • Distance: 10km
  • Trail: 130m ascent, 680m descent Campsite altitude: 3,750 m

Today, if we are lucky, we will have a view of Mt. Gangkar Punsum and other mountain peaks. The trail begins with a gradual climb.


Seventh Day: Phajoding to Motithang

  • Time: 3hrs.
  • Distance: 4-5 km.
  • Trail: 1,130m descent

Today, we have the luxury of time. We will walk past Phajoding Monastery and descend towards Thimphu valley. The view of Thimphu, the capital city, is astounding. This is where our Druk Path Ends. The trek route ends at Bhutan Broadcasting tower, on a small hill above Thimphu city.


Eighth Day: Local Sightseeing in Thimphu

Visit the memorial stupa and the largest Buddha statue in the world before lunch. In the afternoon, visit the textile museum, and a traditional arts and crafts bazaar.


Ninth Day: Thimphu to airport
